Fix 1: Pair Nest thermostat using the Nest app (instead of Google Home)
This is the first fix you shall try. When the Nest thermostat won’t connect to Google Home, the issue is resolved by connecting it to the Nest app for initial pairing and then moving to Google Home.
Here are the steps you should follow:
- Go to the Google Home App and tap on ‘Remove device.’
- Locate the device in the Nest App and select ‘Remove thermostat.’
- Add a ‘New’ home in the Nest App.
- Select ‘+ Add product’ and follow the on-screen instructions.
I would recommend you to select ‘continue without scanning’ > Nest thermostat > You Nest thermostat model (e.g Nest learning thermostat) > already installed and entered the key.
- Go to the Google Home App and the device will be there.
This hack does the job for most of the users who are unable to connect their Nest thermostat to the Google Home app.

- To open the menu, tap the right side of the thermostat.
